ABOUT

I'm Iris, a User Experience & User Interface Designer creating user-centric, compassionate, and innovative experiences and solutions. I'm based in Austin, TX but am open to pursuing this UX journey anywhere or remotely.

My journey into design began from a desire to understand people's stories and pain. My entire life, I’ve seen my immigrant father’s concerns and stories dismissed in the healthcare system while he struggled with psoriasis and later cancer. His feelings of discrimination and unheard voice inspired me to enter healthcare to practice empathy and keep a people-oriented mindset as I venture into a more creative field.

My academic background in Biology in has allowed me to build solid research, synthesis, and analysis skills, while my specialization in Health Communication has taught me to understand user needs. I've learned that designing for people employs a lot of the same empathy and human-centered thinking that I value in the medical field. Thus, my unique experiences from healthcare inform my goals as a designer: to ensure diverse user perspectives, worries and needs are properly heard and addressed.

Today, I approach design as an opportunity to understand diverse stories and celebrate people's experiences to help address user needs and frustrations. Driven by my passion, I'm still learning every day to ensure I can deliver the most thoughtful and effective solutions.

When I'm not designing, I enjoy traveling, dabbling in photography, practicing my mediocre gaming skills, trying new restaurants, and searching for my latest boba fix.
